Window tint is a film which is bonded on a window glass for the purpose of reducing the glare from light sources like sun and vehicles coming in the opposite direction. It is usually bonded onto the window glasses of vehicles. We also use it on windows of our houses and offices to keep out the extra glare and shine of sunlight. The process of using the tint to reduce the glare is known as tinting. Tints are also useful in blocking out harmful ultra violet rays that can cause cancer and infra red rays as well. So, by using tints, you not only keep your car interiors cool but also protect yourself.

The film or the tint is often made out of very thin films of clear polyester which are coated with certain agents and dyes. These agents and dyes are known as tinting agents. In some cases, some tinting metals are deposited onto the clear film to make it function as a tint. Depending on the type of agent or metal used, the color of the tint can vary. Some are clear tints while some are a bit darker in shade. The amount of light which the tint allows in depends on the type of tint being used. Certain tints absorb light while others reflect. Window tints are capable of blocking up to 90% of natural light from entering vehicles. When buying tint, you will have to check for the Visible Light Transmittance (VLT) factor. This factor indicates the amount of light that the tint will allow in.
There are a lot of brands manufacturing tints in different varieties. The extent to which you can see the outside through a tinted window at night depends on the shade of the tint. Not all dark tints make it impossible to drive at night.

Window tints are bonded on the inside of window glasses of the vehicles. This is done to avoid any scratches or easy wear and tear from the dust and other particles in the atmosphere. A benefit of using window tint is that it protects the upholstery in your car. Direct sunlight can cause the interiors to heat up and thereby spoil the upholstery. When tinting is done, the interiors remain cool and the upholstery life also increases. Also, tints hold the window glass particles together more tight. Usually, window glasses without tints shatter quickly than those with tints, during mishaps like accidents.
